What Is The Chaos Rift?
The Chaos Rift is the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End, condensed into a single, ultimate point, which writer Jorge Luis Borges has termed the Aleph. The Aleph is composed of two things: the Eye of God, which sees everything, and the Mind of God, which remembers everything. Everything that was, that is and that will be, from the least to the greatest, from the most common to the most absurd, are all thoughts of God through Man, for Man was created in the image of God, with reason, intellect and most importantly, with the ability to tap into the imagination of God. All of these things are included within the Aleph. In the Aleph, Men are as ants, but they are also Men as we know them, and also gods that step over worlds as children skipping over stones in a brook. The Aleph is nothing, and at the same time it is everything, and also everything that has, and does, and will exist between these two points. Except there are no points to mark these places; there is only the Aleph in which they are contained. The Beginning is always the End, and the End is always the Beginning, but only God knows where these hidden places are.
Imagine a torus turning forever, made up of an illusion of time and space, in a quantum, multidimensional environment that we would call our Universe. This torus is the fabric of our reality, seemingly solid and tangible, but under the right conditions, able to be bent, compressed or stretched. This would create strains within the fabric of reality, where worlds could be crushed together, or wrenched apart by incredible forces and distances, or where worlds might collide in multiple planes and merge. Imagine the beings on those worlds, merging with beings from other worlds, interacting with them, accepting them or warring with them. This is when the Aleph becomes the Chaos Rift, where anything and everything goes, and where what is real right now may not be real in the blink of an eye, or a minute into the past, or an hour into the future, or in any amount of time in either direction. The Chaos Rift is the place where the greatest glitches are seen, where the greatest villains emerge, and where the greatest heroes rise to battle them.
In the Chaos Rift, worlds are tipped over, causing their gods to spill out and fall onto other worlds like a stream of water. Portals are opened from one dimension to the next, and beings from one side might step in willingly to see what lies on the other side, or they might be pushed in by those that want them gone. Some beings are able to come and go, seemingly as they please, while others cannot find their way back to their own worlds and cry out their grief for what they have left behind. Still others will go in with the intentions of plundering and dominating what they find on the other side, or of redeeming what they find with seemingly pure intentions, and at any cost.
The Chaos Rift is where the immortal become mortal, sometimes against their will, and where the common man can become a god under the right circumstances. The Chaos Rift is where gods come to worlds to become Men, and to live very human lives, all the while being completely oblivious to their actual divinity. The Chaos Rift is where worlds become fragments, where thoughts might become reality, where your greatest wonders, and also your greatest fears, might suddenly come to life before your eyes and force you to suddenly adapt to them, or else.
Anything can happen in the Chaos Rift. A young man might suddenly find he can change reality with his thoughts. A Norse Valkyrie might fall upon our modern day Earth and cause havoc for the dark forces that already exist here. A young thug might suddenly find that he has been resurrected, so that he might become a hero on multiple worlds. A family might move into a grand house, only to find it has a very dark history, and that lurking within this house are the blackest demons who have spilled innocent blood in order to enter and invade our world. A band of heroes might be taken from this world and hurled into another, where the magic has become so corrupted that it causes insanity in those who practice it. A young woman could be suddenly snatched away and taken into a world where gods walk the earth and crush their followers beneath their feet. And let us not forget the dwarf, that luckless and lost dwarf, who was curious enough to poke his head into this place, our place, and may never, ever get back to where he truly belongs. All of these people and many, many more reside in the Chaos Rift.
The Chaos Rift is meant to shake you out of your comfort zone. It is meant to strip away those rose-tinted glasses that keep you complacent, to show you the world as it really is, and also to show you how alternate worlds might really be, based on what has been seen and done here, what has been created and imagined, in our own reality. There are moments or triumph and levity, as there are in real life, but when the pendulum swings, it will go a long way into the shadows. Many of these titles are not for the many, but for the few. Are you one of those few? You have been warned. The Chaos Rift begins here.
